website evaluation

#1
I like all the pictures they put up of the different people in all the shows. All the links for all the people are good. It has a lot of information on each person. I think that the design was going in the right direction, I just don’t like the color. It is too dark for me. Makes it seem like it’s suppose to be gloomy or scary when it’s really just an informational blog.  I’m not a big fan of the font. You kind of have to scroll for a while if you want are trying to find someone. A search box might be helpful.  Overall, I think this is a good website.

#2
I think that this website is a really good and simple one. It is very easy to follow. It is not word heavy. All you have to do is look for the subject you are looking for and click that link. The colors in this website go well together. The rotating pictures at the top with caption are also a good idea. The only thing that I would maybe add is a search box, but I think that it is easy enough to follow probably doesn’t need one. Overall, a simple yet good website.
#3
This is a different website I guess you could say. To start off with the good, it is not word heavy. It’s simple and to the point. It has links to all the different kinds of training. There are pictures to go along with all the types of training it has. The colors are red, white, and blue for our nation’s colors. For some reason the website seems a little childish to me. I think it’s the stick figure logo they have. I don’t like the repeating background that there is. Think it would be better to just pick a simple design or color for it. Overall, I would say a decent website.

#4
It is a simple website, not word heavy. There are links to everything. Good pictures to go along with what they are saying. It seems pretty professional. There is no color background, the pictures bring the color to the website, but still looks good. I think that there could be a brief summary maybe for the purpose of the website. Other than that I can’t really see anything else wrong with it. It’s a straight to the point website. Overall, it is a good website.

#5
This is another different website. There are a lot of links to different topics and there is a search box. It tells the purpose of the site. Has a lot of pictures to go along with the text. I don’t like the design and layout of it. It’s too dark for me. I don’t like all the different color fonts. There’s a lot of text but it’s an informational website so I guess that’s fine. This is a weird website to me and I think the colors make it worse, but these are all the creators opinions. Overall, and ok website.

#6
This website seems professional the way it is laid out with the pictures and text. Not text heavy. Has a brief summary and then quotes from people about the subject of the website. There are links on the side that get you to certain places about the website. It gets to the point of the website. The way it scrolls is kind of weird to me. Overall, I think this is a good website.

#7
I really don’t like this website at all. There is so much text in this that I don’t even want to read it. The color of the font clashes with the background color. This is just plain weird to have a website like this let alone have cars like this, but that’s just my opinion. I guess you could say the pictures go along well with the topic. There is no design or layout to this website. Overall, not a good website.

#8
Another website that is simple and to the point. It is not text heavy. There are links to all the different subjects on this website. It is easy to navigate through the website. I think the design is good. It is dark and the subject of the website is dark so I think they were trying to get people into a sad mood when looking at this so that they would want to help the causes. The graphics go along well with the text. I can’t really find anything wrong with it. Overall, a very good website.

#9
This is a very colorful website. Think is had the right amount of text for each subject. It has links to more information below the subjects with link on the side to also help navigate through. There is a search box. The pictures go good together with the text. I noticed the social media links. It explains the point of the website. I believe the design and layout out of the site is good. I don’t really know if i’m a fan of all the colors. Overall, I think this is a good website.

#10
This website has good rotating pictures at the top. There are links at the top to help you get to where you want to. Also, there is a search box at the top. It says the purpose of the website. The graphics go good with the website. It is a professionally made website and you can tell this is a serious website through the design. I like the way it scrolls through. Don’t really see much at all wrong with this. Overall, a great website.

Midterm Report

For the midterm report, the purpose is to show our progress and what we have learned so far through the course. I approached it by talking about every project that we have done so far. I included examples of them and described the designs, technologies, successes, failures, and feedback. Prezi was what I used to make my midterm report. It was my first time using it. I liked the diversity in it and all the different things you could do in it. It does take longer than a power point or a presentation similar to that, but it looks sharper I think. I hope the reader will be able to see what I have learned throughout the course as well as my progress that I have made.  They should be able to see from my output products that I made positive progress every time.

Student Name
Most Effective Composition Logo

3 Strengths + 3 Weaknesses
Message of Logo
Emily Consevage

Natalie Correll
Pen is a good idea with composition. Having the pen represent 1 was a good idea. Clean brandmark.
Just seems kind of blah i guess. Not real exciting but simple which she was going for.
Message is to show simplicity because of the first year class. Ink dots show mistake will be made and it is alright for them.
Taron Cocke

Paxton Cohoon
It shows the McK colors. I like the pencils in it to show the writing. It is a clean simple look.
Maybe could have used another color somewhere.
Shows McK English Composition classes and purple adds school colors/spirit.
Sarah Goetze
It is a clean looking brand mark. I like the paw faded in the background. Conveys the message of first year Composition.
It maybe could have used McK or McKendree somewhere.
Message is first year Composition.
Elizabeth Bruchhauser
Clear on what the point of it is. The way the word size is ties in together good. Could add McK somewhere. Might be too bland. A picture of something might help.
Message shows first year composition.
Jaycee Kusko
This is a really cool design. The pen with the writing on it is cool. Also like the purple paw in the pack ground that ties in McK colors. It could possibly use McK or McKendree somewhere. Can’t think of any more weaknesses.
Shows First year Composition with McK’s school color.

  1.

2. In my first brand mark I used publisher. It was easy to use because I was familiar with it. Did not have a real difficult time making it. In my second one I recreated it completely. In this one I used piktochart. It was hard at first but once I got the hang of it, I liked it.  It is very similar to publisher. There are a couple different features though, but pretty similar.
3. I like my first version for the most part.  Mainly because I liked the font design.  What I didn’t like was the picture I put in of the laptop.  It makes it look childish and I should have not put the picture in there. I didn’t want to leave open space on it, but it would have looked better than to have that picture. I could have found a different one too. The design was sort of simple also. My second version I completely changed the design. I wanted to be different and not simple like my first one. I chose to do a laptop and have a webpage pulled up on it.  I liked the idea and design of it. Thought it looked good.  One thing I would change is the orange color at the top of the webpage.  I couldn’t change it but I wanted the webpage pulled up on the laptop.
4. In the first design I was trying to get attention with it. Also wanted to show the McKendree look with the color scheme.  On my second one I was trying to mainly just be different with the design. Was using more of a technological look in this with the laptop and webpage even though the graphics aren’t that great. They didn’t have the same message because I made two completely different designs.
5. I prefer the second one because of it being different from normal designs. It isn’t a typical logo, but I think it’s a pretty neat design.
6. In my second design I would change the orange at the top of the page because I don’t really like the color orange and I think it would look better with another color.

This is Red Bull's brand mark as you can see.  Red Bull is an energy drink company that is based in Austria. It was created in 1987. Red Bull is the highest selling energy drink in the world. I think that Red Bull's brand mark was trying to get across the point of it being a type of energy drink to appear to give you a boost in not only energy, but strength. I think that is what the bulls on it mean because they are strong, masculine animals. I think that the redness in the brand mark is to get attention. I think they were successful at their brand mark. They created something that gets your attention and appears like it would give you an energy boost.

Snapchat was created by three people: Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown.  At the time they were students at Stanford University when they made it.  Users can send text, pictures, and videos that go away after a certain amount of time. It was created in September of 2011. I'm not really sure for the point of the brand mark.  I guess the ghost is suppose to be like the snaps in a sense that they appear than go away fast. I think they chose yellow as a background for it because it is a bright color and gets attention. If they were getting at what I was thinking with the point of the ghost and the color, I think it is successful. The similarities between the two companies is that they used bright colors to draw attention and their main objects I think have some sort of meaning behind them.

The final edition of our poster in my opinion was good, but the class didn’t chose it as one of the final ones for the essay contest.  Honestly, I think there were some things to improve on.  It seems that we could have more of a poster appeal to it.  We had a hard time with the design to be honest.  We tried adding a border and other pictures, but we thought that it made it look weird and kind of threw it off.  The background was something we liked and wanted to keep, so we did what we thought made it look the best.  I think the background was different and gave it a futuristic, time travel look.  Which that is what we wanted.  Our purpose on the background was to also try and get people’s attention.  Some people liked it and some didn’t.  The picture we put in our poster gave a contrast to the background. I liked the different color and the contrast, but there were mixed reviews from our peers.  Our fonts were picked to make it an easier read with the background.  On the board it appeared hard to read, but once printed out, it was fine.  We made each section a different font to show that they were different topics.  Made the title an unusual font to try and catch people’s attention.  We made the money larger to try and get people to focus on that also to make them want to read more.  I think that we could have put less words on the poster so people would be more likely to read it.

9/18 HW

  1. A good way to market the writing competition would be to put the poster on the computer screen savers around campus.
  2. It could be put on the main McKendree website somewhere. https://www.mckendree.edu/
  3. The McKendree twitter and facebook accounts could also send a post out about this.
  4. Another way to get the competition out there is to print them out and hang them in places. Good places would be where a lot of people pass by like: Ames, 1828, library, lair, PAC, VOS, and the dorms.  I think places to hang them would be on doors of the main entrance, bathrooms, or bulletin boards.
  5. I personally think that email would be a good source to use. It isn’t allowed anymore to send out campus wide emails but I still think this is a good idea.
